The Y WA team shone brightly at this year’s Y Australia Awards in Melbourne, taking home five honours that recognise exceptional commitment, leadership, and impact. These awards celebrate individuals and teams who go above and beyond in their roles, embody Y values, and contribute to a more connected, equitable, and thriving Australia.
This national recognition highlights not only the remarkable contributions of each winner, but also the collective strength of the Y movement—and the difference we make when we work together.
The awards span four national categories aligned with the global YMCA strategic pillars. We are proud to celebrate the achievements of the following Y WA recipients:
Community Wellbeing Award
Emma and Amanda from the Boronia Playgroup team were honoured for their dedication to creating a nurturing, trauma-informed space at the Boronia Pre-Release Centre. Their compassionate work supports mother-child bonding, reintegration, and family wellbeing for women navigating complex circumstances.
Meaningful Work Award
Lynda Bullock from the Y School received this award for her compassionate leadership and her innovative approach to helping young people connect their learning to a greater purpose. Her work continues to empower students with the engagement, confidence, and pathways they need to succeed.
Sustainable Planet Award
The Baldivis ELC team were recognised for embedding sustainability into children’s everyday experiences. Through recycling initiatives, creative reuse projects, nature walks, and a flourishing veggie garden, the team cultivates strong environmental values and hands-on learning opportunities for young children.
Just World Award
The Youth Parliament Taskforce was celebrated for empowering young people to lead with courage. Through the Youth Parliament program, the taskforce supports participants to debate real-world issues, embrace diversity, and champion inclusive leadership.
I.C. Howard Award
Youth Services Coordinator Hannah Collard is this year’s recipient of the prestigious I.C. Howard Award. Valued at $10,000, this award supports a fully funded cultural exchange with another Y, fostering global learning and collaboration aligned to the four strategic pillars.
Hannah was recognised for her exceptional leadership in youth empowerment, community partnerships, and reconciliation over the past seven years. She will undertake a learning exchange with the YMCA in Canada—an experience that will bring valuable insights back to enrich our work across the Y W
Congratulations to all our award recipients. Your dedication inspires us and strengthens the impact we make in communities across Western Australia every day.
